Brian White in The History Boys and the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis

Submitted by Andy on Mon, 2007-09-24 16:01.

I got to see ATS actor Brian White in the Rep Theatre of St. Louis' production of The History Boys, this past Sunday.

What a great show! Very well done, with terrific acting, good sets, music and lighting. Kind of a disturbing story, but compelling.

And our boy Brian did a beautiful job -- one of only two non-Equity actors in the show (he's a junior at Webster University) and there wasn't a drop-off at all -- he's was in the thick of a really talented ensemble. I'm really very proud of him and I'm sure all of his classmates at ATS would have been, too. In fact, I'm telling you that you can be -- take my word for it.

The Diary of Anne Frank at OCTA -- Directed by Darren Sextro

Submitted by Andy on Mon, 2007-09-24 13:53.

I got a note from Darren about his directoral debut and think it's something everyone should get to read. ATS actors Theresa Von Colln and Ian Dempsey (in his stage debut -- I hear he's doing great!) and Gayle Hutchens-Grooms (asst. director) are all part of this show.

AG

Hi, all. I'm directing "The Diary of Anne Frank" for the Olathe Community Theatre and wanted to encourage you to see the show for a few reasons:

1. It's been a terrific experience working with the cast and crew*, and their hard work deserves to be seen.

2. This is the 1997 Wendy Kesselman update of the play, which also deserves to be seen if only because it's a truer interpretation of Anne Frank's original diary.

John Lutjen in Jekyll and Hyde, the Musical

Submitted by Andy on Mon, 2007-09-24 08:36.

Thin Air Theatrics in collaboration with Shine Shows announce:
Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical
by Frank Wildhorn & Leslie Bricusse

Performing October 12, 13, 19, 20, 22, 27 & 31 at 8:00pm
October 28 at 2:30pm

It's a musical based on the evocative tale of the epic battle between good and evil based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story about a brilliant doctor whose experiments with human personality create a murderous counterpart. Convinced the cure for his father's mental illness lies in the separation of Man's evil nature from his good, Dr. Henry Jekyll unwittingly unleashes his own dark side, wreaking havoc in the streets of late 19th century London as the savage, maniacal Edward Hyde.

Ian's in rehearsal for his very first show -- The Diary of Anne Frank at OCTA. We're all psyched about getting to see him and I'm hearing great things from his castmates. Ian's got a wonderful sensitivity and confidence that comes through his work -- lots of fun. AG

Stone, former flatfoot now detective, is hired to find the daughter of the powerful millionaire Luther Kingsley while Luther’s wife is doing her best to seduce Stone.

Busy dodging thugs and trying to convince his former partner Manny Munoz he is not guilty of murder, Stone works his private detective job.

It’s just another day in Hollywood of the 1940's world of powerful film studios and flimsy negligees.

All this set in a movie within a musical; something like The Maltese Falcon meets The Producers.

Plattform Auditions -- Variety Acts

GOT TUBA?

So here’s what I need:

I’m shooting a local television campaign early next week and I’m looking for a WIDE variety of comedic 20-something performers/musicians/singers (or musical stylists). Nothing too big or too small or too odd … from polka to rap to country western to heavy metal. Accordion player, anyone? This TV campaign is gently spoofing the “audition” process … so, the more, the merrier. Date is tentatively scheduled for NEXT MONDAY … and I’m open to any suggestions.

Help!

Katie Ligon in Trainspotting

Submitted by Andy on Mon, 2007-09-10 11:35.

ATS actor Katie Ligon has joined with other talented young cast members to pull off Trainspotting, produced by Journeyman Theatre at the Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre space.

It's a tough, raw show that kept me engaged the whole time. The entire cast was solid, led by MET member Sam Wright. And Katie turns in a performance that by its nature is totally different than anything I've ever seen her do. She's always a wonderfully surprising actor, but this surprise is a completely new direction for her. She and the rest of the cast go after the material and then just let the story have its way with them.

Funny Money at City Theatre of Independence

Submitted by Andy on Mon, 2007-09-10 11:20.

Went to see Funny Money Friday night at CTI -- ATS actor Mike Wimpy played a cameo role in just his second onstage role (and did a great job!).

And director Nino Cassisi's put together a nice tight farce that had the audience laughing, at times uncontrollably. Bill Pelletier anchors the piece really wonderfully -- his timing is terrific. And rest of the cast is solid, with the two women, Nancy Eppert and Vickie Smithson, really kicking it.

Go see this one!
