ATS Actor Allan Hazlett appears in "The Docent," by Cynthia Hyer (I directed Cynthia a couple years ago for this showcase), directed by Katie Gilchrist. And I'm appearing in "The Cove," with Peggy Friesen. Michael Smith directs this script by Catherine Browder. This should be a fun evening -- it's been a fun process for me! AG

Averill: Jul 25-Aug 22: 9 am Sun-Sat
This Tom Sawyer tells the story of Tom's
romances and adventures and leads up to the time
when he must speak up to save Muff Potter's life
by 'telling what he saw in the graveyard that
night.'

Auditionees should have a short monologue or two
prepared and contact Ric Averill for an audition
time in Lawrence, Kansas. Prefer a couple m/f
who get along and are looking for an adventure

Mystery Train Auditions

The Mystery Train is holding auditions for its fall show, "The Legend of the Spooky Switchman", on August 10th, from 1 to 5 pm and on August 11, from 5 to 9 pm by appointment only.

Seeking three women, age range 20's to late 40's, to portray characters in an interactive murder mystery. The show opens Sept 5th and runs through November 1st, with performances on Thurs, Fri, and Sat evenings. There is performance pay. Rehearsals to begin on Aug 17.

For the fifth consecutive summer, Kansas City members of Actors' Equity Association, the national union of professional Actors and Stage Managers in the United States, presents an evening of short plays.

This year we're proud to present six world premieres, five by Kansas City playwrights:

Earthwork, starring John Hawkes, is based on a
true story about the great crop artist Stan Herd.
In 1994 Stan did a project in NYC that would
change his life forever. Risking and losing
nearly everything, the relationships Stan gained
with the homeless community changed his
understanding of how his art could touch people.

Shakespeare in the Parking Lot

ATS alum Kelly Farrar wrote to say, "We're still needing a few actors for "Taming of the Shrew" at the Alcott Center. Its being directed by Michelle Mauler and the performance is on August 232rd. The two (three? AG) main parts we need are Hortensio , Gremio and Vincentio

We also have a couple roles actors who have already been cast are doubling, but in case anyone is interested these are also psuedo available (most double-cast actors are happy to give them up) Those are Biondello, Grumio, Curtis, Pedant, Tailor, Haberdasher and a few servants."

Earthwork centers around a trip acclaimed crop
artist Stan Herd took in 1994 to NYC to make an
Earthwork on Trump's land. Stan risked everything
to produce this piece at his own expense. During
the creation, he built bonds with the homeless,
who played a large part in helping him build the
piece. His expenses left him broke, divorced, and
the huge newscast that was to air for the piece
was ruined by the O.J.chase. Yet, he found the
true meaning of his art and continues to this day.

Shakespeare in the Parking Lot II "The Taming of
the Shrew" by Shakespeare: Jul 6: 2 pm Sun
This event is a one performance fundraiser for the
Alcott Arts Center. This 1 day event is August
23rd 5-9pm. We will hold it outside on the Lawn
and want to show the audience that Shakespeare can
be fun. "The Taming of the Shrew" If you ever saw
the 1976 production of it, that had drums in the
background, and people waving flags and yelling
"Yay!" every time anybody said "Padua," and pretty
