Marcus Is Walking: Scenes From The Road by Joan
Ackerman: Feb 17-18: 7 pm Tue-Wed
Through 11 vignettes the play examines the
emotional landscape we roam as we travel in our
cars. Control, navigation, love and escape, are
some of the themes explored. This is the
landscape of human frailty and vulnerability,
charm and strength; a playwright's whimsy
combined with a shrewd sense of observation.

Directed by Marcie Ramirez. Looking for 6-9
actors, male and female, to play multiple roles.
One of the books every actor should read would be Michael Shurtleff's "Audition". In chapter 3, Shurtleff discusses one of the best techniques to get a scene off the ground with gusto. He calls it "The Moment Before", and this was the focus of week 5.
By improvising the few seconds before the actual start of the scene, we create a momentum that propels the scene from the very first line. Too often we waste the first few lines, getting warmed up, and then by the time the actors are invested, listening, and pursuing objectives - it is over. By establishing a clear Moment Before, we can start the scene "at speed", not wasting any precious moments.
You can save $25 per month (every 4 weeks) by paying for 3 months in advance. The 3-Month tuition price is $420.00 -- taking your four-week rate down to just $140.00.

Scenes round 2.
Working anything off book for the first time can be frustrating, but can also be very revealing. This week we put our scenes on their feet, off book. As always, we lose a bit of the "homework" while we concentrate on our lines, but as I said many times in the past, we need to take a step back to make larger steps forward.
What a group of pros. Everyone came in prepared and off book, thanks parents! This really allowed us to do much more.
The homework for the next class was to find how each line, individually, helps to fuel or strengthen our objective, or what you want in that moment. Also we worked on making the choices bigger and looking for opportunities to raise the stakes. Try and find out where in the back story you can create higher stakes, always go for the big choice.

Trevor's made some significant steps forward with his career recently as a result of a renewed commitment to it. And his wife Marlo and their girls are behind him all the way -- a wonderfully supportive family. And his work, which has always been solid, has responded beautifully to new challenges we've put before him in class. At the end of February, he'll be going out to explore opportunities for about a month in Los Angeles. Break a leg, Trevor -- have fun! Trevor's represented in Kansas City by Exposure.
