Access to Emotion

headshotFrom the time we're very small, we're taught that emotions can make us lose control of ourselves and our behavior. Unfortunately, the message we often hear is that if our behavior is unacceptable, the emotions that cause that behavior are unacceptable as well. And so we often suppress our emotional life to the point that we lose touch with it and its richness. Learning to come back into contact with our deeper, perhaps uncomfortable emotions can be a long journey, with a lot of twists and turns, hills and valleys. As actors, we can never really experience our own unique power in the work without this essential access to the deepest parts of ourselves. And yes, it can be scary -- and that's why you need a trained, professional acting coach -- not to provide therapy, but to help you allow your access to emotions grow in a safe, productive environment. This work can help us not only as actors, but in our daily lives, to respond more consciously and authentically, with the full range of our emotions.

If you're interested in enhancing your ability to access your emotions, both as an actor and in "real life," come sit in on a class. Call 816-674-5601 or check out theActor Training Studio's Information Page.
