To audition, please bring with you the sheet music for and be prepared to sing at least 32 bars of a (fully memorized) Broadway-style musical selection that showcases your vocal range. An accompanist will be provided, so please highlight your selection. NO songs from NINE THE MUSICAL, a cappella singing or instrumentals on CD or tape. In addition, you may be asked to sing from the score and read from the script at your initial audition. There will be a movement audition. Bring with you ALL of your conflicts from the date of auditions until February 26, 2008. The fewer conflicts y! ou have, the greater your chances of obtaining a role. Rehearsals will run Monday-Friday but there may be some weekend rehearsals as well. No conflicts will be allowed during tech / dress week leading up to opening night of the production. Callbacks (by Director Invitation ONLY), will be held on Saturday, December 15 from 10am-2pm at The Barn Players Theatre.
CAST OF CHARACTERS
(* Character may be male or female, depending on auditioners. Male names appear with the original female name, if changes are made.)
Guido Contini – (Baritone, Age 40) Italian Film Director, married to Luisa, lover to Carla and many in the past. He is torn apart mentally by his career, home and life.
Luisa Contini – (Mezzo, Age 30-50) wife of Guido. Wants a divorce if things don’t change, which prompts the change of scenery to start anew.
Carla Albanese – (Alto, Age 20-40) Guido’s mistress. A blast from the past who continuously shows up at inopportune moments in Guido’s life. She is married but will leave her husband for Guido, if only he will get a divorce as well. Luisa knows all about her.
Claudia Nardi – (Mezzo, Age 30-50) Guido’s protégée and actress who Guido wants in his next film…somewhere.
*Lilliane La Fleur/Maurice La Fleur – (Mezzo/Tenor, Age 30-50) Guido’s producer. She wants him to succeed but he insists on doing inappropriate material in his films.
*Lina Darling/Leo Darling – (Mezzo/Tenor, Age 30-50) La Fleur’s accomplice.
Guido’s Mother – (Soprano, Age 50-65) Guido’s Mother who appears to help Guido follow the right path. Although deceased, she knows he’s going to die, but won’t divulge any information about when.
Mama Maddelena – (Soprano, Age 30-50) Chief of the Chambermaids in the Fontane Di Luna Spa
Our Lady of the Spa – (Soprano, Age 20-40) Works at the Fontane Di Luna Spa.
Sarraghina – (Soprano, Age 20-40) A prostitute of whom Little Guido is fond. Whether he loses his virginity to her or not is not the issue. It’s the fact he is always hanging onto her like a mother.
*Stephanie Necrophorus/Stefan Necrophorus – (Soprano/Tenor, Age 30-50) Writer who helps Guido with his movie, also is a columnist for a local magazine who despises Guido.
Little Guido – (Tenor, Age 10-15) Guido as a child and is the inner voice for Guido and his life.
Little Guido’s schoolmates – (Tenor, Age 10-15) Friends of Little Guido who visit Sarraghina with him.
A Nun – (Soprano, Age 20-65) Works at the Catholic school Little Guido attends.
*A Venetian Gondolier – (Any range, Any age, Male or Female) Works as (you guessed it) a gondolier.
