SYNOPSIS
"Closer" is a raw examination of modern urban relationships, and the strengths and weaknesses of those involved in them. It is neither an affirmation nor a condemnation of the way we invest and interact with each other, but rather has been described as a brutal anatomy of sorts. Patrick Marber puts forth this work as a challenge (among other things) to honestly look within rather than judge from across the room.

PLEASE familiarize yourself with the play before auditioning. It contains raw, adult themes, and those interested in working on this piece need to be comfortable grappling with those themes in rehearsal and performance.

REHEARSALS will likely be Sunday through Wednesday in March and April until the week before opening night. This is subject to change depending on the availability of the cast

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
Alice (early 20s) - the young woman who sets our piece in motion. She is spunky and guarded at times and stunningly open and vulnerable at others. Alice does perform a lap dance on stage over the course of a scene. The actress playing Alice should be willing to take this huge risk and be comfortable we! aring quite little for this one scene - however, NO NUDITY is required. ! &! nbsp;
Anna (mid 20s - mid 30s) - a photographer and the object of Dan's affection for the majority of the piece. She tries to reason through decisions more than the spontaneous and instinctual Alice. She is a woman who can find a beauty in pain and tries to capture it on film.

Dan (late 20s) - writes obituaries for a London newspaper and is an aspiring novelist. He is a romantic who rushes wherever his heart leads him, often without considering the consequences. Charm and wit are his tools to woo women to his bed, yet he does not open his eyes during sex.

Larry (early-mid 30s) - a dermatologist and the most primal of the group. Being a doctor, he is acutely aware that human beings are animals at their core and he does not try hard to distance himself from these instincts. Yet he is clever and intelligent as well.
