Bell Road Barn Players proudly present AUDITIONS for The Tony-Award Winning Musical ANYTHING GOES (1962 Revival) Music and Lyrics by Cole Porter Book by Guy Bolton, P.G. Wodehouse, Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse (Revised by Guy Bolton) Directed by Nino Casisi * Music Directed by Kirk Carson SHOW SYNOPSIS Anything Goes,” Cole Porter’s popular screwball comedy featuring dancing, singing, romancing, mistaken identities, and mismatched lovers, will be brought to life on board the S.S. American, a 1930s luxury liner en route to London from New York. On board are: a lovesick stowaway, a brassy nightclub evangelist, a beautiful young debutante and her doting mother, a boozy and lecherous old tycoon, a bumbling gangster disguised as a priest, an ‘English Lord’ with a mysterious past, and a ship full of dancing sailors and high-kicking chorus girls. With music and lyrics by Cole Porter, it features many of his most beloved numbers, including FRIENDSHIP, IT’S DELOVELY, BLOW GABRIEL BLOW, YOU’RE THE TOP, I GET A KICK OUT OF YOU, LET’S MISBEHAVE and the title song, ANYTHING GOES. AUDITION INFORMATION General Auditions – Monday, May 19 and Tuesday, May 20 from 7-10PM Callbacks (by Director Invitation Only) – Wednesday, May 21 from 6:30-10PM AUDITION LOCATION PARKVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (Community Room – look for signs) 819 MAIN STREET, PARKVILLE, MO 64152 To audition, please bring with you the sheet music for and be prepared to sing at least 32 bars of a (fully memorized) Broadway-style musical selection that showcases your vocal range. An accompanist will be provided, so please highlight your selection. NO songs from Anything Goes, a cappella singing or instrumentals on CD or tape. In addition, you may be asked to sing from the score and read from the script at your initial audition. There will be a dance audition, so if you need to change into dance shoes, you will have time to do so. Also, bring with you ALL of your conflicts from the date of auditions until July 27, 2008. The less conflicts you have, the greater your chances of obtaining a role, but this can be negotiable. Rehearsals will run Monday-Friday but there may be some weekend rehearsals as well. Please understand that going into auditions. No Conflicts between June 23 and July 27 will be allowed. PLEASE NOTE: Your participation in this production requires a huge commitment in both TIME AND PROFESSIONALISM. In order to ensure a production of the HIGHEST POSSIBLE QUALITY, please keep your rehearsal conflicts to a minimum. We are also looking for members of the 23-piece orchestra. We are looking for: Violin I (2), Violin II, Viola, Cello, Bass, Reed I, II, III, IV. Reed parts include Clarinet, doubling with alto or tenor sax and a bassoon, Trumpets I, II, III, Trombone, Percussion, Guitar & Banjo. Cast of Characters *Billy Crocker – (Age 21-36, Tenor, lead) Elisha’s kind but inefficient general manager who is in love with Hope. Sings and Dances. Hope Harcourt – (age 21-32, Soprano, supporting lead) – A wealthy and beautiful heiress, engaged to Sir Evelyn Oakleigh. Sings and Dances. *Reno Sweeney – (age 30-50, Mezzo, lead) – A sexy, charismatic nightclub singer and former evangelist in love with Billy. Sings, Dances &Taps. Bonnie Latour – (age 21-32, Mezzo, supporting lead) Moonface Martin’s attractive but not-so-bright accompl…girlfriend. Sings, Dances &Taps. Elisha J. Whitney – (age 45-65, supporting role) An extremely near-sighted tycoon and drunk. Sings in Ensemble. Sir Evelyn Oakleigh – (age 30-50, Baritone, supporting lead) Hope’s nerdy and aristocratic British fiancé. Sings and Dances. *Moonface Martin (age 30-60, Tenor, lead) A gruff but lovable gangster who is wanted by the police. Sings and Dances. Mrs. Harcourt – (age 45-60, Alto, supporting role) – Hope’s mother concerned with social status & money and wants her to marry rich. Sings and may dance in groups. The Bishop (age 45-65, Tenor/Baritone, supporting cameo) A bishop who is traveling with Ching and Ling. Sings in Ensemble. The Captain (age 45-65, supporting cameo) A military man who is in charge of the S.S. American. Sings in Ensemble. Ching – (age 20-55, supporting cameo) A Chinese convert and reformed gambler. Sings in Ensemble. Ling – (age 20-55, supporting cameo) A Chinese convert and reformed gambler. Sings in Ensemble. Purser – (age 28-42, supporting cameo) The Captain’s lackey. Sings in Ensemble. Steward – (age 28-45, supporting cameo) A steward on the ship. Sings in Ensemble.
